My name is Janna and I am a Certified Athletic Therapist (CAT(C))! I am a recent graduate of the Mount Royal athletic therapy program and am excited to be starting my career in athletic therapy! I was born and raised in Lethbridge and lived there until I was 17 when I moved to Sweden and lived there for a year. After living in Sweden I moved to Calgary and worked in retail for 3 years before returning back to school and starting my athletic therapy degree.
I've always been an active individual and loved playing sports. I started playing baseball when I was 4, danced for 12 years and also played soccer. Throughout my years of sports I of course acquired injuries as well. I didn't know what athletic therapy was or that it even existed when I was younger. It wasn't until I started looking into kinesiology and physio schools that I discovered athletic therapy and that Calgary had one of the only programs in Alberta. Since playing sports and being injured I had always been interested in that aspect of helping people return from injuries but I specifically wanted to be working with athletes and those returning from sports injuries. That's why I knew that athletic therapy would be the best fit for me and something that I would love.
Throughout school I got experience working with volleyball, football, hockey and baseball. I worked with a semi-pro baseball team for a summer as well which really helped to cement my love for baseball athletes. Although I love working with all athletes I have really enjoyed working with those who have shoulder problems and are returning from concussions. I am an advocate for whole body recovery as well as mental recovery. I want you to feel comfortable and confident when returning from injury while also being excited to return to what you love.
